A great turnout for the centre’s first Open Day
May 4 2017
Our North Colchester Health Centre recently opened its doors and invited local carers, people with learning disabilities and members of the Patient Participation Group (PPG) in for the centre’s very first Open Day.
The Open Day was a chance for patients to find out more about the local support available in everything from the various ways carers can be supported, to cervical screening information for women with learning disabilities. Supported by representatives from Essex Carers and Community Nursing for Learning Disabilities, they spoke with patients who wanted to find out more information about their services. The centre’s PPG also had representatives who talked to other patients about joining the PPG.
Set up by Kathleen Cini, service manager and Dr Tara Dukkipati Medical Director for Practices, they are planning on making this a monthly event with each occasion presenting a different theme. Kathleen said:
“We were thrilled with the turnout for our first Open Day with many of the attendees telling us that they were leaving with valuable information. It has encouraged us to keep going with these events and we have already arranged up to our September event.
“Future days will include themes such as chronic disease management. Our September Open Day is set to be more of a workshop in which Jon Sions from Care UK, and is our basic life support (BLS) trainer, will be offering free training in what to do in the event of choking and BLS in young children for parents with children under five years old.”
The next Open Day will be held on Wednesday 17th May between 10am– 11am. This will be aimed at Safeguarding and online safety, and will be delivered by our safeguarding lead nurse Jan Withrington.
